CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: PLEASE ENTER VIA YOUR DOJO HEAD ON OFFICAL FORMS PROVIDED 1. Participation in this tournament is open to all clubs, however right of admission reserved. 2. WKF Rules will be applied in the Tournament. 3. All entries are final. Ensure all entry forms are completed correctly as incorrect age or weight information may result in disqualification from the tournament. 4. * * * D I V I S I O N S * * * * KATA Development – For kyu grades only and all competitors 9 years & under. Must do basic Shotokan “Compulsory Kata” but can repeat consecutively. Intermediate – More experienced but not at premier level yet. Kata is Compulsory Kata plus any Junro Kata or Shitei kata being - Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi, Bassai Dai) but cannot repeat consecutively. Premier – For 1st Kyu and above. Kata free choice Shotokan only in all rounds, no repeats. JKS/WKF rules apply.
KATA TO BE JUDGED AS FOLLOWS: The judging of all Kata competition will follow the WKF flag system, either 3 or 5 judges In the 9 yrs and under division competitors are required to perform “Compulsory Kata” (listed here as Kihon Kata, Jo-No kata or any Heian kata or Tekki Shodan or Junro kata) Family Kata Free choice Kata, no bunkai required, must be of same direct family member Koten Kata First round to be any JUNRO KATA and thereafter Only Kakyoku Nidan required, repeat all rounds Team Kata 9yrs and under Only one kata required, Bunkai not required 10-13yrs Only one kata required, Bunkai not required 14-17yrs Only one kata required, Bunkai optional but not scored 16yrs+ Only one kata required, Bunkai optional but not scored Family Kata Only one Kata required, Bunkai not required KUMITE All kumite divisions will be split into above and weight divisions, so please make sure your weight is correctly entered otherwise you may be disqualified from that weight division. Note - A competitor can only enter in one division. The division can be different for Kata and Kumite. SCORING & CONTACT RULES As per current WKF Rules with the following modifications KUMITE RULES TO APPLY TO JKS NATIONAL KARATE TOURNAMENTS: On scoring/contact: 9 yrs. and under – Techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact will be allowed. Any contact at all, (unless by Mubobi) including skin touch, will be penalised. 10-13 yrs. - Techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact will be allowed. Any contact at all, (unless by Mubobi) including skin touch, will be penalised. Cadets (14/15), Juniors (16/17) and Seniors (18+) – all as per WKF rulebook. In ALL cases : The first player to 6 points or the player with the most points at the time up will be deemed the winner. Bout duration: 6 - 9 years Bout duration 1.5 minutes 10 - 13 years Bout duration 2 minutes 14 - 17 years Bout duration 2 minutes 18+ years Bout duration 3 minutes Repechage: (subject to change) Divisions with three competitors will be run round robin with the placing’s decided on the number of wins achieved. If each competitor has one win each then placing’s will be decided on total points scored. Divisions with four competitors will have a match between the two competitors who have not won a match to decide on one third place. Divisions with four to eight competitors will have one third place decided using the repechage system Divisions with nine or more competitors will use repechage to decide the third-equal placing’s. For Karate, repechage involves the competitors who were beaten by a finalist playing-off to decide the 3rd / 3rd equal placing/s. This means that all medal winners, except possibly for third-place in a round-robin division, will have won at least one match. Coaches As per JKS / WKF rules, follow the code of behaviour and the dress code, namely club or national tracksuit. Only one coach can be on the matt at a time. Tournament Waiver Note By sending is your entry form to this tournament, you and / your legal caregiver / parent / guardian are deemed to have read, understood, and accepted the following waiver. So please read carefully prior to sending in your entry form. Tournament waiver The contests are supervised on a strict no contact basis for juniors and skin contact for seniors, but all competitors must accept that in a karate competition there is a possibility of accident or injury, when competing specifically in event such as in kumite or team kata with bunkai. In this event I, by way of entry, agree to accept full responsibility for my participation and waiver any claims against the organisers.
